Comfort Care Campaign

Concordia Brings Comfort and Care

Concordia is committed to quality end of life care, and supporting people and their loved ones in a deep and compassionate way.    The Foundation has fully embraced this as one of our top priorities to raise the funds for the conversion of five acute care patient rooms to become dedicated Comfort Care Rooms.

Our ultimate goal is to create a serene, calm and private environment for people who are nearing the end of life and their families. The renovation of these rooms also includes amenities such as comfortable and warm furnishings that include a pull-out couch for families who wish to remain overnight.

This year’s entertainment featured an amazing group of local musicians who have entertained audiences worldwide and have been a staple in our community for over 25 years. Our pre-dinner entertainment, we welcomed Garth Rempel and Miles Mac Superphonic.

Superphonic is a talented 8 piece instrumental group from Miles McDonnell Collegiate born as a Jazz Combo in 2011 who have grown their repertoire to include Funk, Reggae, Rock, Latin, and Improvisation. Director Garth Rempel is a talented singer in many styles and genres and is a well-recognized music teacher who, along with his wife Lisa, directs the Winnipeg Youth Chorus.

Our main event entertainment has performed in concert halls, on radio and television (both on national and international stages) and has performed the main stage for Queen Elizabeth II at her Gala Golden Jubilee. We are so pleased to have, under the direction of Zane Zalis, Prodigy. Founded in 1983 initially as a rhythm section, these 10 amazing student performers not only provide entertaining renditions of the songs you love, they also perform their and fellow students compositions with ease, grace and velvet smoothness. Director, Zane Zalis has created music for the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, CBC and Rainbow Stage. His symphonic contemporary oratorio – I Believe – performed to sell out audiences in Winnipeg, Toronto, New York and Murau, Austria.

The Concordia Foundation and the Concordia family of care and services are pleased to announce that the 2018 Gift of Health Gala took place on Friday, April 20th, 2018 at the Club Regent Event Centre and we raised over $60,000 toward the Comfort Care Campaign.

Every year, the Gift of Health Gala raises awareness and support for the critical programs and services that Concordia Hospital provides. This year we will launch our 90-90 Campaign to celebrate our 90th anniversary and with a focus on Concordia’s Comfort Care Rooms and program.

Our host for the evening was Marcy Markusa, morning host of CBC Radio and community supporter.  She was joined by the world-renowned multi-talented musicians from Miles McDonnell Collegiate.

We were also honored to have an inspiring message straight from the heart from a family member of a Concordia patient who passed away last year in the first Comfort Care Room.  Her story will move you and inspire you as she helps us get to know her mom as she was in life and how her last days at Concordia were filled with peace and a joy of homecoming.

Thank you to our Grand Prize Sponsor. Thanks to Westjet we raised over $6,000 at the Gala that went to our Comfort Care Campaign.
