Remembering DR. DAVid EASTON

When Dr. David Easton passed away in December 2024 after living with cancer, the world lost a remarkable physician, colleague, friend and caregiver far too soon. But the impact of a life devoted to caring does not end with a life well lived. It continues in the people touched, the lessons shared and, in David’s case, a legacy of generosity that will help others for years to come.

Known affectionately as “Dr. Dave,” David lived with humility and purpose. He dedicated his knowledge, skills and energy to the service of others, always learning and always looking for ways to become a better physician and caregiver.

Compassion came naturally to him. Where David saw a need, he saw an opportunity to help. Generosity was simply part of who he was.

It was therefore no surprise that, early in his cancer journey, David began making plans for a charitable legacy. He wanted his commitment to serving others—and his ability to make a difference—to continue even when he could no longer do so himself.

Having worked for many years in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit at Concordia Hospital, David knew firsthand the importance of compassionate, high-quality care. Concordia was part of his professional life, and he chose the Concordia Foundation as one of the recipients of his legacy giving.

His gift was directed specifically to Memory Matters, supporting dementia care, education and compassion at Concordia. The choice was deeply personal. David’s own family had experienced dementia, and he believed strongly that every person deserves dignity, comfort and the best possible quality of life through every stage of illness.

David never sought recognition for what he did. For him, caring for others was its own reward, and giving was simply another way to serve.

We share his story not because David would have wanted the attention, but because the way he lived deserves to inspire us.

Dr. David Easton spent his life caring for others. Through the legacy he has left behind, that caring continues.

His generosity reminds us that a legacy is not simply what we leave behind. It is what we make possible for those who come after us.
