A 20,000-Step Journey to Knee Health

Walking program aids women in her surgery and recovery

She could have taken up meditation; she could have relied on pharmaceuticals.

But Roxy Goudy had her own prescription for how to ease the pain in her arthritic left knee – walk. And not just any ol’ walk in the park.

The 65-year-old personable wife, mom, grandmother to four grandchildren and health-care aide from Balmoral-Selkirk, Man. developed her own walking program that would have left many others faltering at the start line.

Stepping EVEN Farther

The Concordia Foundation is thrilled to thank the Kothari Family for their amazing generosity, which has helped us Step Even Further as we complete the project that will transform surgical care for joint replacement at Concordia Hospital.

Their gift of $150,000 brings us closer to the total needed to complete the surgical unit – called OR#5 – that will give us a state-of-the-art operating room and allow us to expand our capacity for up to 1,000 more surgeries per year for joint replacements.

The impacts of this project will reduce wait times for surgeries, optimize patient outcomes and ultimately improve the quality of life for people living with debilitating pain.

The OR opened and was in use on June 19, 2023.

This gift brings hope to so many people.
